Shawna, once a Head Start teacher, had connected with Children & Family Resource Center’s Early Learning Center for her classroom. When she found herself facing homelessness, she reached out to see if we could offer any other resources to help her family get back on track.
When Shawna woke up on September 29th, she faced an unimaginable reality— with her husband and their three daughters by her side, she found herself once again homeless and with no means of transportation. In that critical moment, the Children & Family Resource Center (CFRC) was there to provide the support she desperately needed.
Shawna’s story is one of resilience amidst tragedy. Our Community Response Coordinator, Whitney, sprang into action, providing essential items such as diapers, wipes, food, clothing, and cleaning supplies. Understanding the importance of education, we also offered STEM kits to ensure Shawna’s daughters could continue learning at home after losing their educational materials in the flood.
Whitney’s support didn’t stop there. She assisted Shawna with her FEMA application and guided the family from temporary shelter to a FEMA-approved hotel. With compassion and determination, she connected them to legal advice to navigate the complexities of their housing situation and even secured a donated van, ensuring the family had reliable transportation once again.
At CFRC, we witness both deep trauma and incredible resilience every day. Yet, as we face the collective challenges of Western North Carolina, we know that our impact depends on your support.
Today, we ask you to join us in continuing our mission. Your generous gift will empower us to help families navigate their recovery from the flood, providing vital resources that foster resilience and hope.
Please consider donating today and help us ensure that as our community rebuilds, no one has to face their challenges alone. Together, we can turn trauma into triumph.
Investing in high-quality early childhood education is an effective strategy for reducing long term social costs, improving economic prospects for parents, and providing enduring benefits for children well into adulthood. Participation in high-quality learning environments not only impacts each child, but it also strengthens our workforce today and prepares future generations to be competitive in the global economy tomorrow.
With the gifts of time and treasure we receive from our committed donors, we continue to set the benchmark for achieving excellence, improving children’s lives through parent education, quality child care resources, and by being a leadership voice on children’s issues throughout the community.
