We expect working with infants and toddlers to create some challenging situations. But what behaviors are considered truly challenging and interfering with a child’s development and growth? We will identify and define challenging behavior, and work to understand why challenging behavior happens. We will discuss how to gather data and implement strategies that will prevent challenging behavior. We will also discuss strategies to address or respond effectively to challenging behavior when it is present. We can work to prevent children’s challenging behavior and effectively respond when it does occur at the same time. In doing this, we can build social-emotional competence in our young learners.
