Children & Family Resource Center Awarded $150,000 Grant to Support Hurricane Helene Recovery in Henderson County

Hendersonville, NC — Children & Family Resource Center (CFRC) is proud to announce it has been awarded a $150,000 grant from the Center for Disaster Philanthropy’s Truist Foundation Western North Carolina Recovery and Resiliency Fund to support long-term recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene.

This funding, approved as part of a grant modification request, brings CFRC’s total award from the fund to $250,000.

The grant will strengthen CFRC’s Disaster Response Program, specifically supporting long-term housing recovery and supportive services through its disaster case management program in Henderson County. “Families in our community are still working to rebuild their lives” said Emily Balcken, Executive Director of Children & Family Resource Center. “This continued funding will allow us to expand our Disaster Case Management services, providing individualized support to affected families so they can move forward with stability and dignity.”

Through its disaster case navigation program, CFRC works directly with families to assess needs, coordinate services, and remove barriers to recovery. The program plays a critical role in ensuring that vulnerable families, especially those with young children, do not fall through the cracks during long-term recovery.

“We are deeply grateful to the Center for Disaster Philanthropy and Truist Foundation for their partnership in supporting Western North Carolina’s ongoing recovery,” Balcken added. “Together, we are helping families not just recover but rebuild stronger.”

Children & Family Resource Center has served Henderson County families for nearly three decades, working to prevent child abuse and neglect, strengthen families, and prepare children for lifelong success. This funding further expands CFRC’s ability to respond to emerging community needs in the wake of disaster.
